Please add at least one course with credits (≥ 0.5) and a grade selected.
How GPA is Calculated
GPA (Grade Point Average) is a weighted average of your grades, where each course's grade point value is multiplied by its credit hours. Divide the total quality points by total credit hours to get your GPA on a 0.0–4.0 scale.
Standard 4.0 GPA Scale
- A+ / A = 4.0 | A– = 3.7 | B+ = 3.3 | B = 3.0 | B– = 2.7
- C+ = 2.3 | C = 2.0 | C– = 1.7 | D+ = 1.3 | D = 1.0 | F = 0.0
GPA Benchmarks
- 3.5–4.0: Dean's list / Magna cum laude eligibility at most schools
- 3.0–3.49: Competitive for most graduate programs and professional schools
- 2.5–2.99: Meets minimum for many graduate programs but may limit options
- Below 2.0: Academic probation risk at many institutions
Raising Your GPA
GPA is cumulative, so early low grades are harder to offset. A student with a 2.5 after 60 credits needs straight-A work (4.0) for another 60 credits to reach a 3.25. Focus on high-credit courses, retake policies, and grade replacement programs where available.
